Liemonchek Merryg
at Knytshall
Merryg was bought as Bruce's dog as Borzois were
not considered to be suitable for a young boy to show. . She did not enjoy the show ring showing
her displeasure by dropping her tail. .
She was a superb mother, however, bringing three litters into the
world. . The first
litter was her proving ground but it was her second that was her greatest triumph
with three of them becoming champions - the first time this had
happened in the U.K. . Her third litter was probably her favourite
she certainly seemed to enjoy getting pregnant. . Merryg used to accompany Jacquie to
work. . This proved to be very
theraputic when she was teaching in a school for mal-adjusted
boys. . They would enjoy cuddling
her, and would pour their hearts out to her.
Zuvendi Slyngel
Slyngel was Ockie's son and came
back to live with us. . He enjoyed a
limited success in the show ring gaining one CC. . He was not up to the competition though
and stood little chance of joining his father as a champion. . He sired the S
litter but this was the only time he was used at stud. . He got on well with the bitches but was
never too happy with the other dogs and always wanted to
challenge his place in the pack order. .
Eventually he went to live with Michael's parents where he
settled down and loved being the centre of attention. . When Michael went to visit he was never
happy about it, perhaps he feared he would be taken away from a
place he loved.
Rikarlo Rowena
When hereditary cataract was discovered in the U.K. Buhunds, our
kennel was badly affected. . R'ena
had been returned to her breeder from a Schipperke breeder and
she was offered to us as a gift. .
She was very nervous when she came to us but later when she was
collecting for Hearing Dogs you would not have believed it. . R'ena had two litters for us the first with Slyngel and the second with one of Orac's sons. .
R'ena was a good mother and continued to look after her children
even when they had grown up. . She
kept on mothering Thyme until the
day she died. . In her later years
she developed kidney failure. . The
vets told us they had never know a dog to live more than two
years after diagnosis - she proved to be the exception and lasted
six months more than that. . She
enjoyed life till the end but felt we were starving her. . When the apple tree dropped its fruit we
had to stay with her in the garden or she would have eaten her
way to an early grave.
Squirreldene Moondaisy
Daisy
had been sold to a Great Dane breeder but had been returned. . She was very nervous and, knowing the
success we had had with R'ena and all the Hearing Dog puppies we
had socialised, her breeders asked if we would take her on. . It took some time to conquer her nervous
streak and even now she is not 100%. .
She has proved to be an excellent demonstration dog, however,
even outshining the demonstration dogs used by the charity's
professional trainers. . When she is
working you would find it hard to believe she was the same dog we
had collected at a show and who had taken an hour to get in the
house from the garden when we arrived home.
Dewin Gwenifer at
Knytshall
Gwenifer
was bought from a breeder in Wales. .
She has had a limited success in the show ring, gaining three
rCCs, but has made countless friends for the breed as she is so
outgoing with people, especially when collecting for Hearing Dogs
at agricultural shows and in shopping centres. . Gwen makes everyone think that they are
very special, but she makes collecting difficult by rolling on
her back to have her tummy tickled. . Recently
Jacquie has been taking her to obedience classes which she
thoroughly enjoys. . In October '98,
she gave birth to a single puppy who we have named Morsom.
Glyntirion
Brynge
Brynge joined us when he was already an old man. . His owner/breeder wanted the black
buhunds to continue in the U.K. and sent him to us to mate to our
black bitch Inka. . The first mating did not take so he
stayed with us. . His owner became
ill and eventually died leaving Brynge to us. . Having almost given up we tried again
and the G litter was born. . Brynge had been a kennel dog but he
enjoyed the priviledge of living out his old age in the house, he
became a bit slow and stiff and finally passed away in June 1999.
Glyntirion
Bran
Brandy was never meant to be ours. . When his breeder died Brandy's litter
were just old enough to leave their mum. .
In order to get them away from the executor of her estate who
knew little about dogs the club looked for funds to buy the
puppies and rehome them. . We
offered the price of a puppy with the intention that it would be
a loan to the club to be returned when the puppy was sold. . It didn't work out that way and the club
secretary presented Brandy to Jacquie saying:. "Here is your puppy." . He stayed with us and has been
reasonably successful in the show ring with one CC and a reserve
CC to his name. . He is the
favourite with Jacquie's Mum, and the only one who is allowed in
her flat. . He can be very naughty,
and is expert at disappearing, on our 1998 canal holiday he
jumped off the boat and took some time to find..
